Who qualifies?

Automatic Delivery is for any McDougall Energy customer who does not want to worry about their fuel level and whose average consumption in a one year period is over 1,500 litres. We are so confident in our ability to deliver this service without a problem that we have a No Run Out Program*.

How it works?

Using a system called ‘degree days’ we make sure that you will not run out of product by monitoring the outside temperature. When it gets colder out, we increase the number of deliveries to you, our customer.

When you choose our Automatic Delivery Service and your tank's capacity is at 50% or less, the first thing we do is fill it back up to its maximum capacity. With an accurate reading of your tank, we can then calculate the number of degree days that need to accumulate before you will require your next delivery.

We do not want you to worry about your heating fuel; let us do that for you. It is our job to provide you with Peace of Mind!

Definitions

Heating Degree Days are the number of heating degrees in a day, defined as the difference between a reference value of 18°C and the average outside temperature for that day. The value of 18°C is taken as a reference point because experience shows that if the outside temperature is this value then no heat is normally required. Occupants and equipment within a building usually add enough heat to bring the temperature up to a more comfortable level. The average temperature to calculate the number of Degree Days is provided to us on a daily basis by the weather office at Environment Canada.

Example:

Suppose, that the average temperature for a given day is 15°C.
Since this value is three degrees lower than the reference point of 18°C, then one would say this is a three degree-day.

Approximately:

1 litre of oil = 1.75 degree days
1 litre of propane = 2 degree days

* No Run Out Program - When you are signed up on Automatic Delivery and run out of product and it is a result of an oversight by McDougall Energy, we will provide you $150.00 towards your next fuel purchase.
